English, Early 19th Century. Regency mahogany and oak double pedestal sideboard with impressed stamp `WILKINSON LUDGATE HILL', #12705. The sideboard surmounted with backsplash over a breakfront top. The bowfront pedestals housing a hinged door, one enclosing adjustable shelving the other with deep slide out cellarette. The whole resting on bun feet. Height 45.25", width 71", depth 25". William Wilkinson and his cousin Thomas operated a very successful cabinet Making and real estate business at Nos. 9 and 10 Broker's Row, Moorfield, from about 1790 until 1807, when William left to take over the extensive old established firm of Quentin Kaye at 14 Ludgate Hill. Thomas continued to trade in Broker's Row until 1828. From the outset William marked his furniture, usually with the impressed stamp `WILKINSON LUDGATE HILL', often followed by a number. From about 1825 William brought his sons Williams Ayscough and Charles into the partnership; thereafter furniture was stamped `WILKINSON & SONS 14 LUDGATE HILL'.
