Two Plains Items, c. late 19th century, pair of man's smoked hide half leggings, Northern Plains, partially beaded on one side with multicolored abstract floral devices; and a Central Plains beaded hide strip, (minor bead loss to strip), leggings lg. 18 in. Provenance: John Greene, after descent through the Greene family. George A. Greene Sr. (1864-1933) married Elizabeth Gallagher, daughter of Peter and Nanniet Gallagher. Peter Gallagher (1805-1871) was an Indian agent, and these items are believed to have been given to the family from the Shoshone culture, possibly by the Nez Perce, a large Idaho tribe.
