20th century pastiche after Henri Matisse (French, 1869-1954). "Woman in Interior", oil on masonite, signed to verso of masonite "Thorpe". Painting depicts a woman in revealing white dressing gown with arms resting on her head and bare feet, sitting on a green ladderback chair in front of an open window through which is seen a tree lined marina with sailboats. The interior post-impressionist scene is flattened with patterned foliate and geometric fields decorating the space and a round, gated plant stand or jardiniere in left foreground holding a green succulent plant. Framed approximately 47.25" x 27.75", unframed approximately 45.5" x 25.
