Augustus Fuller, (American, 1812-1873) Miniature Portrait of a Boy. Signed "Augustus Fuller Pinxt 1860, $0.00," in pencil on the reverse. Watercolor on ivory, depicting the boy wearing a brown plaid dress with a white lace collar, 2 x 1 5/8 in., mounted in a black embossed leather case. Provenance: Estate of Maurine S. Popp. Note: Augustus Fuller was born in Brighton, Massachusetts, and was both deaf and dumb. He was educated at the American Asylum in West Brookfield, Connecticut. In 1832 he was in Chatham, Connecticut, painting portraits for ten dollars apiece and miniatures for two dollars. He also worked in Springfield, Boston, and Fitchburg, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. His father and brother were also painters.
