John Thomas Riddle Jr. (American (active Georgia), 1934-2002), "God's Plan"-1982, serigraph on paper hinged to foam board, edition noted, titled, dated and signed in lower left quadrant "P 20/20 God's Plan (c) 1982 John T Riddle Jr". Figural print depicting circle with stylized ambiguous animal heads that divide the circle into four equal parts, each part contains a combination of contemporary figural images and symbols that include dual interlocking figures, a skeletal depiction of a lizard, the Adinkra symbol for "Only God", and a tribal fertility doll (Ashanti), with script spanning the lower margin "GOD'S PLAN ONLY GOD Sheet No. S-4 of 5 Sheets". Framed approximately 40.5" x 31.75". Sheet size approximately 33.5" x 25.125".Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: Riddle's work has been exhibited at the High Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, both in Atlanta, Georgia; the Tubman African American Museum in Macon, Georgia; the National Jazz Museum in New York City, New York; and the Musée de Montreux in Switzerland. Riddle's work is also in the private collections of Jesse Jackson, Andrew Young, Maynard Jackson, Cicely Tyson, Sidney Poitier, Roberta Flack and Jasmine Guy.
