John Thomas Riddle Jr. (American (active Georgia), 1934-2002), "The Umbrella"-1987, serigraph on paper hinged to board, artist's proof noted, titled, dated and signed in lower margin "AP/13 "THE UMBRELLA" John T Riddle Jr 1987". Figural print depicting an apparent beach scene with five figures, three male and two female, encircling a large and elaborate umbrella as one figure pulls a sixth figure up from the waves below. Framed approximately 38.75" x 31.5". Sheet size approximately 30" x 22.25". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: Riddle's work has been exhibited at the High Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, both in Atlanta, Georgia; the Tubman African American Museum in Macon, Georgia; the National Jazz Museum in New York City, New York; and the Musée de Montreux in Switzerland. Riddle's work is also in the private collections of Jesse Jackson, Andrew Young, Maynard Jackson, Cicely Tyson, Sidney Poitier, Roberta Flack and Jasmine Guy.
