American School, late 19th century. "Portrait of Two Dogs", oil on canvas, monogrammed and dated lower left "M. A. A. '96.". Portrait painting depicting two spaniel dogs at center to a watery cream toned ground, at left a larger gray dog, possibly a Cocker Spaniel, with long ears and white spots to eyebrows, and at right a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, the dogs closely clustered and looking to left of viewer. Period label to verso of stretcher for Hevener, Meir & Company, Sacramento, California. Framed approximately 22.25" x 26.25". Unframed approximately 16" x 20".
