"POEMS BY ALFRED TENNYSON" BOOK, PICTORIAL FORE EDGE & 54 ILLUSTRATIONS, 1857, 8 3/4" X 6 1/2":London, Edward Moxon, Dover Street. Having an embossed brown leather over board cover with gilt, embossed edges, and fore edge with three vignettes. Hand painted vignettes depict a lake surrounded by cattails, trees and a blue sky smothered in cumulus clouds; the Lady of the Lake presenting Arthur with Excalibur and a boat with two sails against a mountains and tree clad coast line. The gilt edges are embossed with Art Nouveau ornamentations of geometric shapes and scrolling motifs. The leather cover depicts two Art Nouveau representations of fruit trees on the front, one fruit tree on the back and flowers and leaves on the spine. "Poems by Alfred Tennyson" is in gold. The end pages and interiors of the front and back covers are shrouded in green silk that is enhanced with green striations. All of the pages and 54 illustrations (by such artists as T. Creswick R.A., J.E. Millais, A.R.A etc.) are in tact.
