W. D. BUTTERFIELD, WATERCOLOR ON PAPER, 'SEA SCAPE', LATE 19TH CENTURY, 10 1/4" X 13 1/4" IMAGE:View from the beach with two schooners in the distance, seagulls overhead, signed and dated "W.D. Butterfield '91" lower right, under glass in a modern wood frame with linen liner, 13 3/4" x 17" overall. Although not confirmed, artist is probably Wells Duane Butterfield (1859-1936), artist in Detroit, circa 1890-1936; numerous exhibits including the Detroit Water Color Society, 1895 and 1897 (ref. ARTISTS OF EARLY MICHIGAN, Wayne State University Press, Detroit, 1975).
