WILLIAM MERRITT POST [US 1856-1935], OIL ON CANVAS, C. 1900, 24" X 35", CONNECTICUT AUTUMN LANDSCAPE:Signed lower right W. Merritt Post. Tightly focused landscape with stream subtly showing play of light. Post had a studio in West Morris, Connecticut. Many of h is works are preserved at the nearby Mattatuck Museum. Post studied at the Art Students League in NYC where he met the artist Hugh Bolton Jones, who influenced him. Ex Douglas and Vera Povah of Detroit. Purchased by them in 1929 and now owned by their grandson.
