JAPANESE SWORD & STAND, EDO PERIOD:The steel blade is 18" in length and has a Suguba to Notare Hamon; the Tsuka has a cloth binding over a sting ray skin Sa-Me and bronze with gold bird ornaments and ring binding (above the Tsuba); pierced, undecorated iron Tsuba; 2-piece Habaki; brown lacquer Saya. Wakizashi was the companion sword, worn with the Katana or the fighting sword used after the Muromachi period (1392-1573).
