CONTINENTAL CARVED IVORY TRIPTYCH, 19TH C. , H 7", THE KNIGHTING OF SIR FRANCIS DRAKE:A plain exterior with a pair of doors opening to a scene carved in low relief depicting the knighting of Sir Francis Drake, the first Englishman to circumnavigate the Earth, by Queen Elizabeth, the date 1581 is carved at the top and an anchor, symbolic of Drake's naval achievements, is carved at the lower left. Measures H.7 1/8", W.2 3/8" closed (4 5/8" open).
