British School, 19th century. "Portrait of a Wealthy Merchant", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Portrait painting depicting a business man or sea merchant in an interior, the figure wearing a formal blue suit with many buttons to lapel and sleeves with white lace trimmed shirt sleeves and collar, with his white hair coifed and rolled around his ears showcasing large blue eyes, the figure with right arm bent at the elbow with hand resting on hip and with right hand pointing out a window to the figure's side at a clipper ship at sea in the distance, possibly referring to his own ship. Framed approximately 39.5" x 33.25", unframed approximately 34.75" x 28.25".
