Japanese, likely 19th century Meiji Period. A cast and polychromed bronze figural gong depicting an Oni (Japanese folkloric humanoid beast) kneeling to a jagged naturalistic rock base with his left clawed hand resting upon left knee and right arm raised above his upturned head holding the large cup form gong or bell atop a floriform mount with gilt dragons swirling along wide band at upper edge, the figure with four digit clawed hands and feet, long curled hair, a pair of horns atop his head, and wearing a traditional Japanese garment with very high waist, a skirted waist, and loose knee length legs with a figural ring mount to front at groin. Inscribed to wide band at top of gong with 8 impressed calligraphic marks surrounding a swan form. Overall approximately 24.75" x 11.5" x 13".
