S $1.LAFAYETTE 1900 MINTAGE 36,000 MS 63 RARE (1):The Heads of Washington and Lafayette appear on this coin which was the First Commemorative coin of one-dollar denomination, and the first authorized United States coin to bear a Portrait of a U.S. President. The dies were prepared by C.E.Barber. The Statue on the reverse is similar to the Monument of General Lafayette that was erected in Paris as a gift of the American people. The coins were sold by the Lafayette Memorial Commission in 1900 for $2. Each. -
