First edition, quarto, in two volumes, limited edition numbered 770 of 1,000 copies; with two folding maps loose in an envelope, three-quarter red morocco and cream-colored fabric boards, t.e.g., illustrated; boards slightly toned, spines sunned, in acetate jackets, 7 1/2 x 10 in. In this work, Lawrence's undergraduate thesis, originally composed in 1910, he argues that the Crusaders, after seeing the fortifications built in the Middle East, went back to Europe to build their own battlements along the same lines.
