Russian Icon Depicting Holy John the Forerunner, 19th century and later, shown holding a chalice with the infant Christ and a scroll, depicted with wings and a halo against a gilt background, 17 1/4 x 13 3/8 in. Hairline cracks along the central scene as well as inconsistent craquelure possibly suggest an old reapir or refitting to the panel. Central scene with scattered retouching and paint flaking. Also with central vertical crack to paint surface. Panel bowed, with scattered slight worming.
