Russian Icon of Virgin Mother and Christ Child with a Gilt-silver Riza, late 19th century, riza with an engraved frame, inscription to bottom and patterned background, over painted faces of the Virgin Mother and Christ, each with a projecting pierced halo, both silver pieces marked with 84 First Kokoshnik standard, backing lined in velvet, cased within a gilt frame further mounted in a shadow box, icon 7 x 5 3/4 in. Riza with several pinprick dents to front and some metal fatique/dents to sides. Two nails from projecting halo lifted out of place. Gilt areas rubbed to riza. Rubbing to gilt frame and shadowbox with chips, cracks and surface grime.
