Doucai Covered Box, China, 19th century, rectangular, heavily potted, decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze green and red enamels with dragons and phoenixes "playing" with flaming pearls amidst clouds, base with six-character Wanli mark in a double-rectangle cartouche, 3 1/2 x 9 x 6 1/2 in. , on wood stand. Provenance: Acquired in 1963 from S. Marchant & Son, London, to the present owner by family descent. Original receipt available.
