Satsuma Ribbed Bowl, Japan, 19th century, with lobed mouth rim, the exterior decorated in two sections with twelve narrative scenes depicting courtesans in the upper part and flowers in the bottom, the interior decorated with a bed of flowers issuing from the rim to the cavetto, the interior well with a celestial woman figure looking up among clouds, the yellowish-cream glaze with fine crazing, mark in overglaze red and gold (now illegible), ht. 7 1/2, dia. 12 1/8 in.
